G R A N D D M A R S H A L L
This year we are taking a spin on the appointment of the traditional Grand Marshall of the parade. To me, the term of Grand Marshall creates thoughts of someone who symbolizes the heart of the parade. Well this year, the heart of the parade nearly stopped and it required emergent intervention to revive it! The people who were responsible for the revival of this tradition are the businesses, residents and concerned citizens of the community of Gilbert.
I am considering anyone reading this program the
Grand Marshall of the 2009 Rock'N'Rodeo Gilbert Days Parade !
• Sponsors would not consider supporting an event that no spectators came to see, so, it is you the spectators!
• It is those of you who clicked on the "Save the Gilbert Parade" button on a website!
• It is you, the concerned citizens of Gilbert who may not have been able to give financially, but you encouraged the effort, you volunteered to help, you read the newspaper and responded, or you contacted the Town Council to encourage them to continue this tradition, or you simply spread the word that the parade was on again.
• It is the entries into the parade, who put their day aside to delight and entertain the townspeople of Gilbert and her neighboring communities!
• It is the sponsors who were so generous with funding to support the parade financially!
• It is the Mayor, Town Council and the municipal departments that came together to re-think the old plan and come up with a new one.
• It is the media who was instrumental in getting the word out that the parade needed help.
So whether you gave your time, talents, funding or encouragement - YOU are the heart of the parade, and therefore, the
HONORARY GRAND MARSHALL!
